  • An Overview of Karak & Chapati

  • What could be more satisfying, tantalizing and tastefully tempting than some “karak” tea accompanied by a choice of mouth-watering spreads on whole-wheat chapattis!

That is the concept on which Karak & Chapati has been created. And what’s more, it’s already creating quite a stir as one of the must-eat, must-try cafes of Bahrain today. The place has all the relaxed, down-home atmosphere of an easy-going café with the quality and superior ingredients you’d expect of a fine dining establishment.

From the whole-wheat ‘atta’ used to make the authentic chapattis to the delicious choice of spreads, Karak & Chapati takes great pains to source only the best.

Our ‘chapatti atta’ has been ground in a ‘chakki’ – a stone mill – to ensure that it’s fine yet retains the entire wheat kernel. So it has all that deliciously healthy flavour as if it came straight from the farm! And then it’s kneaded, rolled and broiled on a tava – the traditional flat iron griddle – until it puffs up into a flat bread that’s soft and light with that fresh-baked taste that’s pure perfection.

Next, we top it off with a selection of some of the most delicious toppings – from the traditional to the completely unexpected. And once again, our toppings are made from the very best ingredients or sourced from original suppliers.

As for the ‘Karak’ tea, be prepared to taste the tea that in north India is said to keep you satisfied for 100 kilometres! It’s the kind of tea that the old long-haul truck drivers used to have. And that’s what ‘karak’ means – strong. So, it’s not for the faint of heart. But, we do take even those into consideration and can offer milder versions.

However, if you’re ready to try it, be prepared to welcome to your heart red tea that’s been boiled until the tannins are rich and at the forefront of the tasting cycle, then it’s been heavily laced with rich milk – again we do take into consideration those who’d like a lighter milk or no milk at all. And finally, it’s sweet. Really sweet. But when that sweet combines with the pungent spices, herbs and tannins of the tea, it’s a combination from which there’s no turning back.

Whatever else, Karak & Chapati will introduce your palate to an astounding mixture of taste sensations… taking your taste buds where they’ve never gone before.
